Tottenham’s season thus far is sure to have left supporters reasonably content, especially when you consider the strength of their title opponents.
The Lilywhites are in fifth place but currently find themselves a staggering ten points off the summit of the Premier League. Despite this, the season can still be described a success, and some notable goals ensure the Spurs faithful have had high points to celebrate.
But which have been the best goals?
Earlier on in the season, Mauricio Pochettino’s side looked on course to mount a title challenge once again and end the 55-year wait for a domestic league title.
Injuries have hampered the progression made by Spurs this campaign but thankfully Pochettino was able to rely on his squad players to continue the club’s development and results have picked up of late.
But, we’re here for goals and here are FIVE of Spurs’ best strikes of the season…
5 – Heung-Min Son vs. Stoke City
If there’s one fixture Spurs continue to hold supremacy in, it is away to Stoke City.
Mauricio Pochettino took his side to the bet365 Stadium in early September and their brutality inflicted win was a joy to watch.
Son’s goal on the half-volley set Spurs on their way showing his elegant touch and technique in the process.
4 – Christian Eriksen vs. Gillingham
During the club’s EFL Cup journey this season, a comprehensive victory over Gillingham occurred with Danish star Eriksen scoring the pick of the goals.
The ex-Ajax man netted from almost 30 yards out to set Spurs on their way to progressing to the next round. After being given too much time to make a decision, Eriksen made the Kent team pay in spectacular fashion.
3 – Heung-Min Son vs. Middlesbrough
If not for the Son, Spurs would have struggled to cope without Harry Kane during his ankle injury in September.
Against Boro he scored two goals to guarantee the Lilywhites victory but his second goal, in particular, stood out.
After jinking around in the Boro box, Son found space and curled a stunning ball into Victor Valdes’ net.
2 – Christian Eriksen vs. Chelsea
Rewind almost one month and Spurs travelled to Stamford Bridge hoping to end their 26-year wait for a victory against the Blues.
Belief almost turned to reality when Eriksen opened the scoring with a thunderous strike against a Blues team that hadn’t conceded a goal in nearly two months.
Unfortunately for Spurs, the joy wouldn’t last long as Chelsea fought back to win 2-1 and continue the Lilywhites’ wait for a victory away at their London rivals.
1 – Heung-Min Son vs. Swansea City
Once again, Son has appeared on the list due to his display against Swansea City. After a troubled spell that saw Tottenham knocked out of the Champions League, Son was one of the shining lights for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Finally, after six weeks without a victory, Spurs secured three points against Swansea in November with the former Bayer Leverkusen man’s strike the pick of the goals.
