Queens Park Rangers’ poor start to the 2018/19 Championship continued as they were thrashed 7-1 by West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Saturday, and Steve McClaren must sign Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers to solve his side’s defensive blues.
What’s the word, then?
Well, QPR prop up the league table following three defeats from their opening three league fixtures of the season, and they showed their defensive weakness by conceding seven times against Darren Moore’s men at the weekend.
The west London outfit’s goalscorer, Joel Lynch, and Toni Leistner started at the heart of the back four against the Baggies, and the latter in particular disappointed on the day to suggest that McClaren needs to dip into the market for a new centre-back.
Meanwhile, The Daily Mail report that Spurs defender Carter-Vickers looks likely to leave the club on loan before the end of the month following similarly successful temporary spells with Sheffield United and Ipswich Town last term.

Why should QPR sign him?
The promising 20-year-old is already a full United States international, and he proved during his time in the Championship with two different clubs last season that he is a more than capable defender at this level.
While he may still be youthful, he would add some much-needed quality to the heart of the Rangers defence, while he has the maturity to cope with the situation that QPR could easily find themselves in this term if their beginning to the season is anything to go by.
Given Mauricio Pochettino reportedly wants to give the American more experience and with the predicament McClaren is currently in, he would be mad not to try and bring Carter-Vickers across the capital to Loftus Road.
