Plenty of Liverpool fans pointed the finger at goalkeeper Loris Karius following the team’s defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League on Saturday night.

The German made two massive mistakes that led to goals from Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale in the 3-1 loss in Kiev.

Mohamed Salah’s 31st-minute substitution with a dislocated shoulder did not help matters, either.

However, the focus has fallen on Karius, whose performance has reinforced the notion that Liverpool need to dip into the transfer market this summer to buy a new goalkeeper.

It seems that the fans want more than just a new figure in between the sticks, they want goalkeeping coach John Achterberg to be given his marching orders.

In most cases, when a team is not performing well, it is the manager that gets the axe rather than the players, and some Liverpool fans think that the same approach should be taken with regards to backroom staff.

Karius became Jurgen Klopp’s number one at the start of 2018, replacing Simon Mignolet, who had been first choice since his switch from Sunderland in 2013.
